For the last six weeks of my second year studying Product Design, a group of students and I were asked to collaborate with the organization TOON. The project took place in a vulnerable neighborhood in The Hague, where we were challenged to transform an empty grass field between two apartment buildings into a community yard using only recycled wood. The goal was to help residents connect with one another through our transformed space.
The form marks the starting point of the project. We asked residents to fill it out to gain a better understanding of what changes they wanted to see in their neighborhood.
After collecting this information and speaking directly with the residents, we began our design process. Over the six-week period, we developed the following designs.
