BRUTAAL AFGELEID
“Brutaal Afgeleid” originated from a fascination with Brutalism. This architectural style is characterized by its minimalist and robust appearance. I have translated and developed these characteristics into my own design approach. In this personal style, the emphasis lies on form and aesthetics, which I aim to express in a handcrafted way through the material.
I then pair these designs with a function to create a connection between the user and the object. The outcome so far is a series of objects in various sizes and with different functions. The light that shines through the openings serves as an imitation of the evening light emitted by buildings, bringing the design back to its architectural roots.
The title "Brutaal afgeleid" ("Brutally Distracted") refers not only to the influence of Brutalism, but also to myself as a designer. I often find myself brutally distracted by the endless design possibilities that form in my mind, making it difficult to focus on a single outcome or material. By wanting to do everything at once, I sometimes lose the opportunity for deeper exploration. In this project, I deliberately looked for that focus by limiting myself to working with metal.

Brutaal afgeleid consist of three different type of light fixtures and two different plant pots.
